Artist Statement

Nature is often the term we use to define the wild world occupying the spaces that society doesn't reach. But spend a day in "nature" and you'll quickly understand that its existence is not separate to ours, nor equivalent - it is us. Modern conveniences shroud and dull the human experience at every turn, but it is still possible to leave these behind and immerse ourselves within the life force from which we originated. There is no feeling quite like a still forest, a breezy seaside, a towering mountain casting its shadow upon us. And, for now, we all have the ability to find these spaces, to walk in them, to fill our senses with their offerings. This series is an homage to this experience, an attempt at capturing moments where the line between humans and the natural world blurs to the point of non-existence - the moment when we are able to realize that, just like the trees and the sea and the mountains, we are nature.

James Bianchi is a photographer and visual artist who grew up in the forests of Minnesota - it was in these formative early years that he found a deep spiritual connection with nature. This relationship has been a well of inspiration throughout his career, as he seeks to highlight the incredible beauty of the natural world around us, and to try and understand how we as humans belong to it.
