Artist Statement

As a photographer, I am captivated by the ever-shifting dance of light and shadow-a silent symphony playing across time and space. My ongoing series, "Concrete," delves into this fascination through transition skateparks- stark, lunar landscapes, a far cry from my Florida childhood.

To me, these aren't just skateparks; they're architectural wonders-sun-drenched landmarks that act as living sundials. Shadows meticulously weave a visual narrative of the day's gentle escape, etching time itself onto their concrete canvas.

When I was first introduced to this type of park, I was an apprehensive observer, daunted by these towering behemoths. But gradually, confidence bloomed alongside my keen observation, as I documented the light and shadow's nuanced ballet. Skating demanded a specific rhythm, adjusting to obstacles and the light's fickle dance - sometimes a blinding nuisance, other times, a perfect, golden glow. It was then I knew I had to start cataloging my observations.

Since then, "Concrete" has transcended mere documentation. These photographs, I've started to see them more as an invitation for kindred spirits, a silent nod to fellow park enthusiasts and shadow-chasers, an open door to the subculture that is my home. Immersed in this series, my heart finds sanctuary. This enduring connection stretches back a lifetime and will continue. Capturing these spaces brings me immense joy-a poignant reminder that the essence isn't in athletic prowess or tricks but in the profound peace and joy evoked by simply skating these marvels.
