Artist Statement
My work is an open response to the unexpected or incongruous that I encounter, the visible surprises in life. The images represent a happenstance or an oddity I found in a particular place or situation. They collectively add up to a world view that may be a little askew; but I hope an uplifting one.
Although my photographs frequently reflect a bit of humor, I exercise a graphic sensibility to organize the formal elements of a scene to create a personal perspective on the subject. A photograph may start with a momentary recognition of a particular situation. But it is what you leave in the image as well as what you leave out, that makes it memorable enough to retain its strength and impact over time.
I want to share these images that touch on the less than serious side of myself-too much in life seems serious enough. The simple purpose of these photographs is to reflect a wink and the suggestion of a smile from within my deeper self.
