July 5-28, 2001

Suzanne Saylor’s vibrant color photographs take note of the loving testamentsindividuals create in the process of mourning. As memorials, these tributes, reflect the diversity of culture and generosity of spirit found in the people of Hawaii. These public displays through Christian imagery, food offerings, leis and notes for the deceased left at the graves, reveal the human struggle to come to terms with the passing of loved ones, and the attempt to focus grief and sorrow into symbols of love and honor.
