Photography embraces play through many means. The photographic image can be a result of a playful process: painting with chemistry on light sensitive paper or using long exposures to record the travel of light. A photographer might embody a sense of playfulness in the way they challenge a conventional genre of image making. Or they may work with costume, makeup and props to role play in the studio. The element of surprise and wonder through unexpected colors and juxtapositions can evoke feelings of whimsy. This selection of new student work from the PNCA undergraduate Photography Department embodies a range of playing through photography.
